There is truly something for everyone. However, museums can be pretty expensive and on a college budget, money is crucial. Luckily, many museums within Philadelphia offer student discounts that help save money while also being educational fun!
Philadelphia Museum of Art
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is known for the steps that Rocky ran up in the movie, but it is also home to an impressive collection of artwork. From Van Gogh to Mondrian to many more, the museum is not one to miss. Student admission, with a valid school ID, is $14, a $6 savings. Also, art students from colleges in Philadelphia can get in for free with a valid ID. Museum admission is pay-as-you-wish the first Sunday of every month from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and every Wednesday from 5 to 8:45 p.m.
The Museum of the American Revolution
The Museum of the American Revolution is relatively new to Philadelphia. It is located in Old City and was built in 2017. The museum documents the events of the Revolutionary War, from start to finish. It also talks about the war from various views, from soldiers to slaves and Native Americans. Washington’s Tent is a must-see presentation. The museum makes the Revolutionary War relevant to the world today. Regular admission is $19, but students get in for $17 with a valid ID.
Mutter Museum
The Mutter Museum of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia of Philadelphia is a museum that houses anatomical specimens along with models and medical instruments, along with various other collections and exhibits. The collections contain both normal anatomy as well as abnormalities, all aimed at teaching visitors about the human body and medical science as well as helping with medical research. Adult admission is $18, but student admission is $13 with a valid ID.
The Academy of Natural Sciences
The Academy of Natural Sciences at Drexel University was founded in 1812 and is located on the Ben Franklin Parkway. It features various exhibits and collections, live animals, a tropical garden with live butterflies, and large dinosaurs, all aimed at teaching visitor about biodiversity and environmental science. Admission is usually $19.95, but student admission is $16.95 with a valid ID. If you purchase tickets online, you can save $2, making the student ticket $14.95.
